What to Pack in that Lunch Sack?

This is a compensated review by BlogHer and Juicy Juice.

Now that my 3-year-old quadruplets will be starting school again in the fall,

I am desperately trying to find healthy items to stash in their lunch boxes (which is NO easy task, let me tell you).

Sodas are out of the question, so the only remaining "mom-approved" drink choices are: milk, juice, or water. It is beyond frustrating to pass shelf after shelf of high fructose corn syrup based juices.

This health conscious Mama is looking for 100% REAL fruit juice- NO added sugars or sweeteners, NO artificial preservatives or flavors...

Well, HELLLLOOOO Juicy Juice!

A big package of Juice boxes arrived at our door (thank you kindly, Nestle and BlogHer!), and I immediately had 4, very eager, willing participants who were more than happy to help Mama with her review.
(Benjamin, Andrew, Ethan & Savannah trying out the Juicy Juice Punch flavor)

Each 6 oz Juicy Juice box contains 100% Vitamin C and counts as 1.5 servings of fruit- which scores major bonus points with me.

Well guys...whadya think? (Here's at least one satisfied customer)

"Mommy! NO added sugar!" (what can I say? Drew gets excited about healthy living)

Ben: "Hey Ma, Look! I can hold it without squeezing all of the juice out!" (Ahhh...like music to my ears: convienient, portable, no mess)

Things I ♥ about Juicy Juice Punch:
- great, fresh taste
- convienient
- nutritious (100% Vitamin C, 1.5 servings of fruit, NO added sugar or high fructose corn syrup, NO artificial preservatives, NO artificial flavors)

Things to consider:
- The average price for an 8 pack of 6.75 oz Juicy Juice All Natural 100% Juice is ~$3.50

My son just started kindergarten this year so I've been looking for ideas to keep his lunch healthy but still making it something he wants to eat. Fortunately for me my son loves fruit so I've been putting grapes and apples in his lunch. I also throw in a string cheese and have used Juicy Juice juice boxes as well :)

My 6 year old son loves sandwiches, yogurt, cheese, and fruit. He's a pretty healthy eater! I must admit, with him going to full day school this year, I've also been obsessing a little bit about what drinks I can pack in his lunch box that are healthy and convenient. Thanks for the review.

My oldest is going to all day kindergarten this year and is a little hesitant about eating in the cafeteria. We have decided that she will get a lunch box and based on what they have as a hot lunch she might be packing her lunch. I recently saw that you can get individual packs of apples and grapes. Such a great thing to throw in her lunch box along with some of these juices. I love that they are 100% juice.

My daughter almost always has a healthier lunch than me. I tend to pack great things for her and I'm very conscience of food groups. (And then when it's time for my lunch I just throw things in a bag) Her lunch has either a yogurt or a cheese stick, a raw veggie or some sort of peas/green beans and then a carb snack like goldfish or those veggie chip things. She also loves raisins so those are usually in there everyday, she never gets sick of them?

I have 4 boys ages 2, Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade. My favorite things to send are frozen Go-gurt tubes (they defrost in the lunch box, but are still slushy texture by lunch), string cheese, green and red grapes (I usually put these on a blunt ended kabob stick and rotate colors...they look cool and the boys eat them better that way). On days when the boys are tired of sandwiches I throw in a tortilla, banana, and a single serving of honey for them to add at lunch time. Another one of their favorites is to heat chicken nuggets in the morning then wrap them in foil and place in an insulated container. Then I either send a container of BBQ sauce from McDonalds or Ketchup from Whataburger (they are in little containers that are easy to dip and not messy) depending on the child.

My son likes peanut butter and jelly made with these alphabet jello cut outs I have. So he gets his name (EVAN) made out of a whole sandwich.(4 seperate pieces)People always say what a great idea! He loves juicy juice as well. And pizza goldfish for snack if not a fruit that day.

Love, love, love juicy juice - i usually freeze them and they are still chilled for lunch time. The kids just found gogurt and I will start putting that in their lunch as well. I also put in a half of string cheese with about 10 grapes. My kids aren't big lunch eaters, so I try to put a lot of small finger foods, so they can snack on.

I packed my daughter's first preschool lunch yesterday: frozen peas, grapes, yogurt, sliced turkey, and bread. She ate everything but the bread, which is much better than she does at home. Yay for social eating!

Love your blog. My twin three year olds will be starting preschool this fall too. So excited! They love dried cranberries as a snack.

Though my 2 year old isn't starting school we still do healthy snacks throughout the day. One of his (and my) favorites is cheese cubes and grape "k-bobs". Just thread grapes and cheese on a plastic coffee stirrer and voila! So yummy and FUN and healthy!

In my little boys lunch box, he pretty much gets the same thing every day. A peanut butter and jelly sandwich, a gogurt, Juicy Juice juice box, applesauce, fresh fruit - usually watermelon and blueberries this time of year - granola bar, and raisins. Every day he comes home with at least one thing he hasn't eaten but he has the choice what he gets during the day. Packing his lunch was one of my biggest fears of switching him to a daycare/preschool from an in home daycare where she provided lunch for him.

Hummus goes in my 3 year old daughters preschool lunch box as a "side". She dips crackers or carrots in it.

I also sprinkle some ground flax seed on her sandwich for added nutrition. She can't taste it or see it (I put it on the mayo before the meat goes on top).

I have my first child on the way, so I don't know what it's like to try to pack healthy lunches yet. But I know I would pack some fruit in there - probably some grapes or an apple.

My daughter is going to be 15 in a few weeks. Thankfully she had a good foundation as a baby/toddler. She drinks a lot of milk, eats most kinds of veggies and doesn't drink soda.

I don't pack my three childrens lunch as I homeschool them. However we still want healthy food to eat. I am very picky about what they eat, here are some great finds that I have find.

Juicy Juice boxes (your review hit the nail right on the head)
Cheese sticks
Welch's Fruit Snacks (made with real fruit, No preservatives)These are like gummies but healthier and taste much better.
Peanut Butter Crackers, you can buy them with whole wheat crackers, the peanut butter gives the kids energy.
Apple & Carmel packs (I don't know what these are really called, they are over in the produce section at Wal-Mart)

Unfortunately, my kids are past the stage of me packing their lunches or trying to hide the veggies, but I love fresh fruit and yogurt in my own lunch.

I have a KG'er and a 1st grader this year, so lunch is a challenge. I try to send a little bit of a lot of things and I try to keep it mostly healthy. Today was cheese cubes, cinnamon-raisin bread, yogurt, an apple, crackers, small cup of water, and a few mini marshmallows. :)

I love to pack my three kids healthy snacks. Fruit, veggies. I'm trying not to pack the processed junk!

I have 5 kids, 3 in school (5th, 3rd, & 1st grades). I don't always pack their lunches, but when I do, I try to keep it healthy & go beyond the basic PB&J. When they do have sandwiches, it's always on wheat bread which is much better than white. Their favorite, though, is when I pack a yogurt (usually squeezable yogurt tubes that have been frozen), fruits, string cheese and a bread like a mini bagel.

Celery with peanut butter! Yum! Or I love a great big salad filled with carrots, celery, cucumbers, and radishes. Is it lunchtime yet? I'm hungry!

Our favorite healthy snacks are:
Golden Delicious apples (no red at our house!)
Low fat cheese sticks
baby carrots in hummus or lowfat ranch dressing
